SAPT Leadership Training for 4th & 5th Year Apprentices
Seattle Area Pipe Trades (SAPT) engaged my services to design and develop a comprehensive Leadership Training program to equip 4th and 5th year apprentices in plumbing, steam fitting, HVACR, and residential trades with essential leadership skills. This initiative was created to foster the next generation of UA Members and empower them for success both on the job site and in their broader careers.
Each session is co-facilitated by myself, local contractor Superintendents, and SAPT full-time instructors, blending real-world industry expertise, proven teaching methods, and my experience as the program’s creator. Apprentices participate in small groups of 20-25, encouraging interaction and practical learning.
Key topics covered in the curriculum include leadership fundamentals, communication, teamwork, prioritization, learning styles, relationships, the Standard of Excellence, discipline, accountability, feedback, and teaching in the field. These areas are designed to prepare apprentices for the multifaceted demands of the trades, emphasizing both technical and interpersonal skills.
Since its inception in 2021, the program has received positive feedback and has grown to include a Conflict and Communication class for all 2nd year apprentices—designed and delivered by myself. SAPT’s ongoing commitment to leadership and professional development is shaping a new generation of UA Members ready to lead, collaborate, and inspire throughout their careers.
